Shine and Dine 2014 Chicago

This August I attended the fourth annual Shine and Dine gala benefiting Step Up Women’s Network at the beautiful Bridgeport Arts Center’s Skyline Loft in Chicago.

This was the third year I attended along with my sister and it’s come to be one of our favorite charity events of the year! The silent auction, wonderful food, and moving speeches from former Step Up participants make it an easy cause to get behind.

The Future of Food: How Will We Solve World Hunger?

It’s been a while since I last posted on here, but I can promise it’s been because of a great cause. One in fact that I focus on from about 9:00am-5:00pm every day, my “day job” as the media relations manager at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). We’ve been working on a new initiative that I’m excited to share with all my readers now that it’s finally launched because it bridges two things I love: food and helping people. FutureFood 2050 was created to start a broad dialogue on how science will deliver solutions needed to feed the world’s nine billion people by the year 2050. With the premise that the science of food is an essential ingredient for feeding the world sustainably, FutureFood 2050 will highlight the people and stories leading the way toward a healthier, safer and better nourished planet.

Step Up Woman’s Network- Shine and Dine 2013

This past August was the second year I attended Shine and Dine in Chicago benefiting one of my favorite Chicago non-profits, Step Up Women’s Network.

Step Up is a nonprofit membership organization now in its 15th year igniting women and girls to fulfill their potential by:

  • creating and implementing impactful after-school and weekend programs that empower teens from under-resourced communities to be confident, college-bound, and career-ready
  • propelling professional women through connections, collaborations, and continuous development
  • inspiring our network to invest in the future success of girls through mentorship and financial support
